What's the Point?

Social Media is a morass of videos, blogs, reels, websites -- all pre-selected content for us from a set of algorithms based on our browsing history. For me, I'm probably invisibly directed to shoes, clothes and breaking news.

That being said, it made me think a lot about this Tummy Tees site and why it's even here. Like I said, when we started our discipleship house, we were told by a pastor that we needed to be self-suffient within 3 years. Then, he gave an example of some missionaries that started a cashew farm in Columbia and the role of all new visiting missionaries to the area was to see it, and admire it, I guess. He didn't mention them picking nuts, weeding crops or working the fields.

I needed a business, but probably not cashews, or anything related to farming. So, I started with the little cloth bookmark that was cute enough on the front, but a bunch of knots on the back. It took a couple of hours to make. Probably not that practical in a day-and-age of reading on our phones, or not reading at all. Then, I started trying to embroider verses onto t-shirts. Since I didn't know that much about embroidery machines, I didn't realize that I had to buy all these programs and create elaborate set-ups to stitch on the verses. To this day, I can't figure out my fancy new sewing machine. While scouring embroidery how-to videos on You Tube, I noticed in the side bar another cool craft - printing t-shirts.

Tummy Tees is here to help Waystation. I always imagine things going way better and getting immediately much bigger than reality plays out. So far, I've sold 4 onsies. That's 4 better than zero! And thank you! Here's a short list for how I hope Tummy Tees proves useful:

  • to direct people to Waystation to make a donation to the non-profit ministry.

  • to sell some t-shirts!

  • to create a cottage industry that my brothers & sisters in Christ can help with

  • to post some interesting blogs and do some interviews

  • to speak at some churches.

I feel driven and motivated by the verse that started it all. I got my numbers mixed up in the video, but Buddy wasn't going to put up with a 3rd take!

Hebrews 13: 3 "Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated, as if you yourselves were suffering."
